Yummy!

Last weekend certainly was a party. On Sunday, Brisas Grill, on Avenue Ruena Medina, celebrated their first anniversary. I will be doing a review of this most excellent place later on.

Among other things, they served free appetizers. This was the first thing to arrive at our table.

I admit, it doesn't look all that appealling. Trust me though, it was delicious. A soup of lobster, shrimp and crab. The broth was so good I was tempted to ask for just a cup of that to drink!

I trust that it was delicious, but one look and I'd run!

It has taken some getting used to, but some of the lobster, crab and shrimp soups they make here in Mexico are really great tasting - The shrimp eyes bugging out at me, the non- de-veining and shells must add flavor ;-) What do you think?

kw: Have you never had peel and eat shrimp? Same thing here except that you have to tear off the head and feet before you can peel it. Delicious.

Calypso: they also served shrimp and crab ceviche. The owner told us he made it himself but left the shells on the shrimp while cooking. They took them off to make the ceviche. He says it gives more flavor. And it was really good so I guess I trust him!

I love that place. We stopped there on our last visit 2008. Had our first meal as a married couple there in 2007.

Sorry I have been so quiet. But I have been keeping tabs. How are the caps coming along. I showed our boys the comments you posted about our meeting and the bag of goodies we dropped that day. They were so proud to be a part of something so special. My youngest is keeping his eye out for "cool colors".
Hope your toe is well and I agree...the shrimp heads freak me out!

Warm wishes from Iowa.

I don't like something looking at me while I'm eating it! Yuk to the eyes........

Just as an annoying aside, the best culinary authorities advise removing shrimp heads before cooking ... has to do with certain flavors imparted to the shrimp body during cooking/steaming that ain't nice....so, although the heads look funky and oh-so-au-natuerel, rip 'em off before you cook 'em.

So There.

BandT: I think you may be confusing Brisas Grill with Brisas Mexicana on Hidalgo. BG did not open until March 2008. The caps are coming along fine...thanks to your generous gift which has allowed me to keep click clacking away!

Babs: I hope you didn't think you were going to bait me into saying something inappropriate to your comment!

O Robert: I have never heard that. I do know that once I jerked the head off that shrimp it was delicious. Just this morning I watched Tyler's Ultimate cooking show on TV. He did a seafood gumbo and he used whole shrimp, head and all. I would assume a professional cook knows what he is doing. I personally would never leave the head on but that is personal choice.

AM Mommy: LOL! Boys will be boys!

Leo: thanks! it's nice to appreciated.

There are various schools of thought re: shrimp heads/no shrimp heads. I go for the majority, both in number and expertise. So,.....

Rip of the heads.

The soup looks yummy. Ate there a couple of times last trip. The chicken and Gouda nachos are really good. The arrachera steak was very tender, served with baby red potatoes garnished with a dollop of sour cream and bacon bits and perfectly done grilled veggies.
