For Your Good

The same day that I read in the paper that a group of police officers were being reassigned to beef up the Tourist Police squad, I saw these guys downtown.

Notice that I was smart enought to wait until they all had their backs turned!

These officers have all been selected for their ability to speak English. You should have no trouble spotting them. Just look for the group of five or more police officers standing around doing nothing.

A tourist police squad - wow - we do live in different worlds of Mexico ;-)

I don't envy the security of those hombres - but that blue water...

Funny! I hope they also have someone at the police station now 24/7 who speaks English. I've heard those nightmare stories from the past of tourists needing help and not being able to communicate. Whenever I've been on Isla by myself staying away from town, I've always worried about knowing the number to call. But then I thought -- how the heck am I going to communicate if I get someone on the line! My bad because I don't know Spanish, but it'd be nice to know there's someone who could understand to help.

I hope these police aren't like the one in San Miguel, Cozumel who played dumb when I asked directions-found out later from a bartender & a frequent visitor that he doesn't give directions unless you ask with pesos in your hand.

calypso: if you were here right now, you would really think it is a different world. Thousands of national tourists unloading from boats and swarming over the island like a team of army ants destroying everything in their path.

LAB: just never call that 066 number. It rings directly in Cancun and they will have no idea where you are.

anonymous: I really doubt that that would be the case here. Last summer when somebody tried to steal my motorscooter, I had to call upon them. They were very helpful and caring.

steve: gulp. Maybe I should take my picture down again! But I fear I am already to well known (and monitored!)

Hola! Actually on that police photo you could just edit the post to reflect what great legs the TP have. Cheers from Merida
