All's Well, Sort Of

Good news. No break, no crack. When I asked what the line was on the film, the doctor just gave that shrug of the shoulders. Sort of the silent version of "No Hay". I forgot to mention that you can also see the six screws that I have in my lower back quite clearly on the x-ray. She never even mentioned them or asked what they were!

I'm just getting old. No surprise there. What is going on is that I have lost most of the juicy stuff (real medical term, I swear!) that lubricates your ball joints. The blow I suffered to my hip exacerbated a condition I didn't even know I had. The doctor very sternly advised me to take care of my hip because otherwise I will be looking at a hip replacement sooner rather than later. Sooner rather than later?!?! I don't know how she could tell from one x-ray that I am heading down that path. And just how, pray tell, am I supposed to take care of my hip? What does one do special to keep your hip working properly?

I suggested that some possiblilites would be no more sweeping the floors or back patio, not standing at the sink to do dishes, definitely no climbing ladders, no carrying bags of groceries for blocks to get to where we had to park the car and being allowed to sit quietly at the computer for as long as I want everyday. Nobody around here is buying it.

At any rate, I have bone rubbing against bone for now and no idea of how to fix that. I don't know what I'm going to do when the pain meds run out. Maybe by then the cow/swine anti-inflammatories will have done their job and reduced whatever swelling is going on in there that is causing the pain. Only time will tell. In the meantime, life ain't very much fun.

I would like to thank all of you for your kind emails and comments. Made me feel good, they did.

Ouch hombre - I think a problem with we males (other than the many Jonna has listed and her most recent comment I won't touch)is we refuse to accept the required adjustments to getting old - I know I don't.

Hopefully the bone rubbing will go away as whatever you inflamed dies down.

In the mean time rest easy amigo.

Wayne, I'm so glad it wasn't a break or a crack. Hopefully, the meds will reduce the inflammation and you will be as good as new.

I definitely think you should be excused from those horrible household chores for at least a month. :D

Mu Daughter In Law had the bone on bone rubbing on her knee and they injected "Cox Comb" into her knee joint. It is really the fluid that is in a Roosters Comb. You know the red thing on his head. After much steriod anti inflamatory drugs and then this stuff, she is walking fine. Beats a knee replacement which is what the other option was.

Good Luck

Hope you're feeling better soon and up and around so that you can keep taking photos for the blog! Ha! Seriously, take it easy and get well soon. Can't believe the prices of the care you got. I had my eyes checked today for $100 and considered that a bargain!

Sounds like you got good results! It was all the prayers. Take care .. drugs work wonders!

You said "ball joints." *snicker*
I think I am a 16 year old boy trapped in the body of a 37 year old woman.

I'm so glad nothing was broken but sad that you're still feeling poorly. Take it easy, get a lot of rest, and watch telenovelas.

I was glad to read that your hip is not broken. That’s a big relief I am sure.
Why not put up a poll and your readers could vote what daily chores you should be excused from? I for one will give you a hall pass on running around the island taking photos.

Great that it is not broken, crappy that it is still giving you a hard time. Take it easy and get over it quickly.

Thank your lucky stars it's not broken!!

You said 'bone on bone' *giggles*

Heatherinparadise- I'm right there with you! LOL Actually I think I might be stuck in a Bevis and Butthead episode! Sacry!!

May I suggest for long term hip care a muchacha to clean your place (or muchacho- whatever LOL) and perhaps a handyman??
I would love to order you to touch nothing! Oh wait I think I did that... and I meant it!

I wonder if you take glucosamine if it would help at all??
Maybe you just need someone to kiss your boo boo?

BTW- now can we make hip jokes??? *looks at you with beggar eyes*

Wayne - Look into Glucosamine. I had a dog with arthritis and I swear to you that Glucosamine kept her walking at least 4 or 5 years longer than she would have without it. She started limping at age 7, we gave her Glucosamine until she died at age 15. Whenever we ran out she would suffer a lot! As soon as we got more she was fine again!

Glucosamine helps support cartilage. Google for it and you will find good info. Costco carries it!

I'm in my 50's too and had a similar problem. The Doc told me to try 1,000 units ov vitamin D daily, one pill and cheap at Costco. It has worked for over a year now...

I have hip pain that is probably the same aging thing, I have had some good results from glucosamine.

So glad it is not a broken hip. Hopefully you wull be feeling better soon. You might try Glucosamine and Chondroitin pills to help replenish the "juicy" stuff. It has helped my knees. In the meantime take it easy!

Wayne, are you taking Glucosamine? If not, you really should start on it.

I do hope you're feeling much better by now and that farm meds are keeping you pain free.

Sure glad it wasn't a broken hip!

I don't know anything helpful about hips, but I am glad to know that yours isn't broken.
The poll would be fun.
Good thing you still have your slender boyish figure so you don't have to worry about excess weight putting more strain on your joints.
Regards,
Theresa

Geez, I leave town for a couple of weeks and you "fall apart" or "down" or something.....
Meds are good for "pigs and swine" you say - and someone else comments on meds that were good for their dog - oy vey - this blog is SO over the top that I can't think of anything else to say......
Last I read, you had survived Hurricane Dolly and now THIS.....
GET WELL - REST - Drink.........

Wayne, so sorry to read about your accident. If things don't improve rapidly, head for the mainland and find a good ortho doc. When you are "okay" again, maybe you could try some mild yoga or something to keep the joints freer. But you definitely need to stop all those chores! Tell the guys that Dr. Mercer said so.

thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I appreciate each and every one. Had to laugh at the cock's comb though. First cow/pig steroids and now chicken parts! I may just turn into something you see on Ripley's Believe It or Not!
