These Didn't Make the Cut

As many of you know (and are probably sick of hearing), I have another blog. By far not as popular as this one. It's called Explore Mexico with Me and you can get to it by clicking on the link on the sidebar. It goes into much greater detail than I could here about my travels, adventures, misadventures and journeys throughout Mexico and parts of Latin America these past four years.

I am currently in the process of writing up the story of my seven week driving trip through central Mexico, Baja California South and the entire Pacific Coast of Mexico. It's taking me longer to write than I anticipated. At any rate, it will be heavy with photos. I can't, of course, post every picture I took on the trip. Nor would I want to! I have been culling ones that I think are either superfluous or don't contribute to the story. I take pictures of everything when I travel, not knowing what I will like later and to help my failing memory! Here then are some perfectly acceptable (in my opinion!) photos that did not make the cut:

Going through the mountains from Tuxtepec, Oaxaca to Oaxaca City, Oaxaca.

Mexican Mountain Road Hazard

The beautiful mountain country leading to Oaxaca City, Oaxaca

Saw this inside a sunny courtyard in Oaxaca City, Oaxaca. I love dragonflies.

View from the monastery window in Oaxaca City, Oaxaca

Looking back down from the mountains surrounding Oaxaca City, Oaxaca

Being a weaver, I really liked the gradient in the yarn that produced this rug. I don't believe the wool was dyed, just woven as it came off the spool. This was at a rug factory in Teotitlan del Valle.

I found the bas relief on the ruins of Mitla fascinating. So different from the Mayan decorations we see here in the Yucatan.

The sunlight, the water, the banana tree and the colors all made for eye catching contrast at this hotel pool in Oaxaca City, Oaxaca.

Ahh. Soothing pretty flowers.

Don't anyone tell me that the Mexicans are not skilled road builders. They built this!

I wanted this pot. I would probably plant something a little more interesting in it.

View from the cable car going up the mountain at Taxco, Guerrero

Overview of hilly Taxco, Guerrero

Rather beautiful in its' severity, staircase in a monastery.

View of the cathedral towers in Taxco, Guerrero

Even a window can be a piece of art.

See? Here's another one.

Loving the railings on this staircase. I'll bet each one was lovingly handcrafted.

Hidden in a corner, these pots spoke to me with their simple beauty.

This staircase was located in some obscure building in Morelia, Morelia. One of the most splendidly beautiful I have ever seen. Including in Europe.

Please leave a comment as to whether you thought these were worth your time or not. I have a ton more but if people were suitably bored, I won't bother posting them. But if you don't let me know, I may just post some more at a later date!

Great photos! Keep them coming as far as I'm concerned.
My wife and I just got back home [Medicine Hat Ab Canada] after a month in Guayabitos [about 40 miles north of Puerto Vallarta]. We miss Mexico already. Can't wait to be able to spend 6 months or more.
I read your blog most days that I am home.

I really DO read every post you make there, even it is sometimes hard to follow the posts you are publishing there because you are publishing the posts so fast. :)

Wonderful photos. The last three were really "escheresque". Looking forward to meeting you (fingers crossed) at the meet in April.
