The field is about 50 yards by 20 yards, but that's just a guess. It is surrounded by cement walls and it is legal to play the ball off the walls. We went over the other night to watch one of our local friends, Adrian, play. We usually go over to watch Luis play so it was a treat to see a different team.
We haven't been to a game since we got back from our trip in July. We were shocked to see the condition of the playing field. B asked the ticket taker guy if this wasn't dangerous for the players. We got that "duh" look, he looked over at the field for a few seconds and then responded "Nooooooo". Stupid safety conscious Gringos, that's us! Admission to these games is 2 pesos. That money supposedly goes for upkeep of the field. Maybe they should think about raising the price a bit.
I'm not a great sports enthusiast but I love these games. The action is fast and furious. Except for the occassional foul, they go non-stop for 55 minutes. They also change sides every 15 minutes.

We sat with Adrian's wife, Rosie, for this game and had a great time. As you can see from the following picture, these games are not well attended. Mostly only the families of the players. They play every hour on the hour from 6PM to 10PM.

Your photos reflect a re-occurring isla problem. Money to build but never planning maintenance. Look at the playgrounds, the walk around salina grande the downtown market etc. The money goes to where the tourists go.
I agree with your first statement but disagree with the second, sort of. Take a drive through the colonias and look at how clean they are getting. There is even a truck going around now collecting big garbage, like old refrigerators and stuff. Hardly any tourists visit the colonias. They might get mugged or something!! LOL!
