Can it be????

Hurricane Watch Net, among others, has just posted the latest update to Dean.

WE ARE NO LONGER IN THE PROJECTED PATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The closest even tropical force winds will come to us is 141 miles. He has dropped way south and will probably make landfall around Felip Calderon and cross the southern Yucatan. Belize has now gone on alert also. Great. Now I get to worry about Lee who lives on Caye Caulker and writes such a great blog.

Needless to say, I am ecstatic over this recent turn of events but feel so sorry for the people of the southern Yucatan. This is a high poverty area, low lying and there will be no shelters for people to run to. Most of the houses are poorly constructed and not made to withstand any kind of storm. Let alone a hurricane.

If Dean totally misses us, I worry about the next one. People will become complacent and will take a "wait and see" approach. They already wait until the last minute as it is.

At any rate, looks like we are going to be safe and maybe just get a little rain and some wind. Let's hope so!
