Izamal is a city I could live in. Except for its' lack of a decent grocery store. And easy internet. And a few other things. But it is a beautiful, friendly city with a nice town market.
While walking through the chambers of the convent, the play of light coming in really caught my eye.
There are exits down to street level on all four sides of the convent. This one will drop you off at one of the town squares.
Did you notice that Izamal still has horse drawn carriages plying the streets? Mostly for tourists but I find it soothing to hear the hooves beating out their rythm on the cobblestones.
The tamarindo trees were almost ready to drop their pods.

Thanks for taking us along on your excursion! We're coming for 3 weeks next year & I hope to finally explore on the mainland a little.
I love Izamal too. We looked at a cute house on about 2200 sq meters just out side of town. However, the internet was iffy and even though it's seems far away it's still in the fideicomiso zone. It was just over the limit for a fideicomiso,so we would have either needed two or a corporation!

Theresa
It is amazing to see the vibrant colors you see all the time!
I'm so sorry I didn't have time to get there recently.....Love the colorful wall mural......and the whole feeling of the town......
I don't know how we missed seeing the convent on our last trip to Merida, but I must make this special stop next time. Thanks for sharing this trip.
You have always told me how nice Izamal is. Nice I can you you were correct.
I agree, Wayne, that Izamal could be a pretty livable place. More and more the attractions and hubbub of a larger city just don't interest me. Peace, quiet and good neighbors do. When I get in the mood to think about moving to a smaller town, Izamal (along with Valladolid) crosses my mind. I doubt if I ever will make the more, but it's nice to contemplate.
Beautiful photographs! Wish I was there!
