Almost, But Not Quite

Remember my concern a short time ago about copper pipes being stolen off homes around here?

I painted all of the exposed pipes that I have running the length of my house. I thought I had covered them all.

Nope.

I forgot about the ones that run from the bathroom upstairs up to the third floor roof. The thieves didn't.

Evidently somebody entered from my neighbor to the north's roof onto my roof. There is no other way to get up there without coming onto my property. They undid the ties that keep the pipes from rattling around and blowing in the wind. Then they tried to force the pipes away from the building. Because of the way they bend and turn and are attached to the wall at a lower junction, they were unable to get them off.

This time.

I think I am going to the get the concrete guy to come over and cover all of my pipes with concrete. I can't think of anything else to try to stop this nonsense.

Just another day living in paradise where there is no crime.

Incredible! Not only do you have to cope with that horrid view from your front porch, you now have to configure ways to thwart the banditos! If I recall, this is the second or third time you have been a victim of a crime.

I'd definitely think about getting out before it gets any worse there! Your blogs do not paint a picture of a happy island camper. Paradise (?), or no paradise - what price life? You deserve better!

It's too bad you can't hook the pipes up to 110 volts. That should make them think twice about stealing copper.

Copper theft was HUGE around here a few years ago, but I haven't heard much about it since all the other economic woes hit the fan. Concrete might not be a bad idea. Would painting the remaining pipes work?

People need to take turns staying up all night to catch those bandits! PVC is a great idea, if it works.

Actually, if you use CPVC you can replace even the hot water pipes. It is as easy to use as PVC and very inexpensive. Just not sure if it is available in paradise.

PVC will work - I would change - what a drag!

I'm glad the painting seems to have worked, I know lots of people here in Maz found it did.

cvcp and pvc arent made to be exposed to excessive sunlite. It would work for a little while.

Mikey: hell, this is the 13th time I have been burglared, stolen from or had an attempt to break in. See why I am so sick of it? I'm tired of all the crime here and the lack of law enforcement. Not of the island itself.

In General: Pvc would be great. Carl/Debbie hit the nail on the head though. PVC degrades here really fast in the constant sun. It really is not a viable option since I can't bury it.

I think having it covered with concrete is a good idea. At least IF you were home you would hear them chipping through the concrete. Wayne, I'm really sorry about this. Isla is such a beautiful place. It would be hard to give up that ocean view.
