$3.68 Worth Of Goodness

One of my favorite...if not thee favorite....places to go for lunch is the loncheria San Martin. It is one of the four lunch stands located under the arches outside of the downtown market.

Over the years I have narrowed my favorites down to two. Oh yes, once in awhile I grow adventuresome and order something totally different. But mainly it is either chuleta empanazada (breaded pork chop) or the goodies shown below.

Now these are nachos. Nachos con pollo (nachos with chicken) no less. I'm pretty sure that I get a healthy serving of these. We have been going to this lunch stand for years.

They are not just piled on the plate with the toppings spread around. Oh, no. Each one is spread indiviually with refried beans, then the toppings are placed on that layer. Repeat for five or six layers. For 45 pesos, it is truly a meal.

I never eat at the other three lunch stands anymore. Over the years, I have tried them all. They are each good in their own right. I have developed a relationship with the family that runs the San Martin, watching their kids grow up and now have kids of their own. I would feel like an absolute traitor if I were to sit down at one of the other stands!

I highly recommend this lunch stand if you are ever on the island. You will not be disappointed with anything you order from their extensive menu.

Forgot to mention:
"I'm pretty sure that I get a healthy serving of these."

I'm pretty sure there is nothing healthy about that huge pile of a heart attack.

Aren't you glad I am a faithful reader and that I worry about your health! ;-)

I'm definitely going to try that. I hate it when you eat the top layer and then you just have chips.

One year when we were on the island A & G was closed most of the time & we started eating at SanMartin & have stayed with them since! Love it!

Looks like a good breakfast to me.

That looks yummy! And it's all about moderation! Once and a while shouldn't hurt!

Ya know, this is what happens; ya mention a health issue, and we ALL become Dr. Kildares .....

Although the concern is appropriate, we'd ALL do well to follow our own advice more closely ..... me especially.

Anyway, we all just want you to know, Wayne, ....

CUT OUT THE CRAP!!!

C'mon People. Cut me some slack. It's not like I go there everyday...or even every week. A small indulgence once in awhile isn't going to kill me. Although I do truly appreciate the concern you all show me, I am still human and need a little treat now and then. The main purpose of this post anyway was to toot the horn a little bit for my favorite lunch stand.

Ok, useful advice: eat more avocados, oranges, limes, kiwi fruit, fish (NOT Barracuda), grains and lotsa (certified pure) water.

And name your new car Blue-Footed Boobie.

Or, Blue Boobie, if that's more convenient.

Yummy nachos! Once in a while won't hurt you (I hope). And I know what you mean about being a traitor. A&G has been our usual place (Miguel knows the owner) but I really wanted to try that last one as someone recommended the chili rellenos as the best on the island. We waited until a Saturday, when A&G is closed, and slithered in. We like their food but the chili relleno didn't cut it for me. Anyway, A&G never found out, I hope!

Wayne .. I agree with you 100% .. we all need a treat now and then! When our number is up .. good-bye .. no matter what we eat.

Personally I eat at all of them for different reasons. Sometimes it just because one of them has less customers and I don't have to wait for a table. Or someone told me that a particular dish is the best they ever had at that loncheria. However, next time I will definitely those nachos though.
