I don't know if this is a palm or not, but I have always like the looks of this plant.

WE LEFT THE RAT RACE EIGHT YEARS AGO AND RETIRED TO THIS LITTLE ISLAND IN THE CARIBBEAN. THIS IS MY ACCOUNT OF THE TRIALS, TRIBULATIONS, AND LITTLE JOYS OF LIVING IN MEXICO.

Looks like a sago palm. We have them in our landscaping here in AZ. I was surprised to find out that a lot of palms have big thorns! Leather gloves required for trimming!
Is that a boat anchor chain surrounding it?
I was thinking maybe a sago too, but whatever it is, it is really cool!
That is a pretty neat looking plant, same question, what is around it?
I also think it is a baby sago. That is a boat chain. these palms sit at the beginning of a driveway. the driveway used to be demarcated with these chains. now they adorn the palms too. it is one long, huge piece of chain.
