I just read an article in the paper the other day that mentioned that concession owners on the beach are responsible for keeping the beach clean. This would be all the hotels and restaurants that rent tables, chairs, umbrellas or sell food. At least now I know who to complain to about the NaBalam Beach being so crummy.
This is not a beach where concessionares have a license.
It doesn't take long around here for an uncared piece of beach to go wild very quickly. This is the beach next to the Ultramar passenger waiting area. There is a private home in front of it.
I guess they are not responsible for anything.

I am curious as to what you like and what is positive about living on Isla.
That is a shame! I can't stand to see people not give a damn and litter!
The NaBalam beach was really bad when we were there in July with large seaweed beds all the way across their property. A few years ago, a local told me some Islenos believe seaweed removal leads to the erosion of sand, so I wondered if that was their reasoning for leaving the mess there? But I've also seen some hotels pay workers to rake it and bury it at the water's edge.
That pile of seaweed would be raked up, piled in our yard for a while til the rain washed the salt off and then tilled into the garden. Do people compost on IM, it seem the thin soil could use some help sitting on top of limestone as it does.
Mexico is well behind the times on keeping things beautiful - mucho basura!
I'm with you Nana! why isn't that stuff being hauled to peoples yards and composted! Man if I was closer I'd be gathering it up big time!
the plastic I could do wihout - do those islanders know the plastic is recyclable, and I do believe you can get money for turning it in.

Pretty soon if Mexico doesn´t take care of its natural resources the natural resources will become just big Litter Dumps. It was the same in South Texas on the beaches where all people had to do was walk 100 yards to a trash can..But no..lets dump it. Mexico has so many beautiful locations but it seems like at times the LOCALS could care less.
This photo was not on Isla, but at the ferry dock on the Cancun side.
