Stupidity Revisted

I have preached more often than I can remember about the danger here on the island of standing next to the edge of the cliffs. They are massively undereroded and pieces of them are constantly following off into the sea below.

For awhile, there were even signs posted along the coastal roads warning tourists to stay away from the edges. Of course, they were made of paper and lasted about one week.

So, even though they have built a new edging wall along the cliffs at South Point, I guess I was not totally surprised to see this act of stupidity.

See that blue and red sign on the right of the picture? Guess what it says in two languages? They were not the only ones to ignore all the warning signs that afternoon. After I photographed this act of stupidity (she even got closer to the edge so she could get some kind of princess in paradise picture), I decided to only take "after" pictures and then sell them to our local newspaper.

They love to publish pictures of gruesome and bloody dead people.

It amazes me what some people will do! Most of the time it is the younger generation that like to disregard signs and think they are invinceable!

Wouldn't catch me on the other side of that wall!

You'd have to climb over the wall to get up close enough to read those signs! Whose idea was it to paint them red on blue?

Tourists seem to believe they are immortal -- and some older expatriates with a zipline death wish.

Maybe the signs would be more effective if the read: "Iguanas are territorial and only bite people of their side of the wall. For rabies vaccinations call Delfino"

But then they expect the taxpayers to pay the medivac for the consequences.....
Where I use to live, their was a place called Goat Rock, every year the Coast Guard would pluck stupid people off of it, like 20 times a year...
Signs? That's for everyone else....

Nonono .... not always "the younger gen"

I'm an "older Gen",, and there's lots of stupidity to go around in that set, too ....

lisa and o robert: it is not just the younger generation that displays this kind of stupidity. More often than not it is young people but I have also seen fathers drive a golf cart with their families fully loaded on them right up to the edge.

kfrommichigan: me either

1st Mate: I believe the painting instructions came from TIM.

Steve: yes, zip lines and the title of this post go hand in hand

drgeo: LOL! Would love to see the look on tourists faces if they read a sign like that. But why do we have to give the iquanas a bad rap just to keep people from being stupid. Maybe natural selection when they plunge to their deaths is the way to go.

tancho: point well taken

el oso: if I lived where you do, I would saunter out with camera in hand and tell them I am just waiting to take the picture for the local paper when they fall off the edge!
