Making A Point

Something a little different today. My friend and fellow island inhabitant, Zina, has written a blog post today that hits the nail squarely on the head about some of the realities of living here.

Go take a look. Here.

Read it and it makes me sad. I know the island had a lot of hope for a booming high season. I keep hoping this world economic mess will improve. : (

I enjoyed reading your friend's take on the ever-changing situation in México. I could make a lot of comments in agreement, but I will hold it to this one. I I just wrote yesterday about my current survival plan, which involves renting rooms in the house I call home.

I took my announcement off the US sites. I would rather not have NOB guests. FUSS LEVEL IS WAY TOO HIGH. I have had much better luck with latino guests, who appreciate little things that Americans take for granted.

I have a feeling you folks on the Caribbean see only tourists, when we city people have a chance to pull in actual TRAVELERS. Big difference.

LAB: High season has been slow again this year. Last year it was not overly crowded, then all the problems with terrorist news and H1N1 and the cold weather. My local friends are hurting. I wish I could get them to drop the "manana" attitude and save a little bit every time they get paid. That will probably never happen though.

Anonymous: if you know me well enough to wave, why no name?

Jane: LOL! Someday.

Lin: what a great observation! We do have tourists here, not travelers. I consider myself the latter and I know the difference.
