Blogger Blahs

Is there a "hit the wall" point with blogging? Does there come a time when you just can't think of a thing to say? Or at least anything that might be even remotely interesting to people? There was a time when I doubted it. I thought I would never run out of things to talk about.

I've noticed some of my favorite bloggers have been using the term blogger blahs lately. So I figure I can't be the only one experiencing this phenomenon of running out of material. But I wonder what is going on now that this bug seems to be spreading?

I have to say, this island is only 5 miles long by 1/2 mile wide. I am amazed that I have found so many things to talk about and show you over the past few years. There is, after all, limited resources and stories available to me. Unless I want to start publishing all the rumors one hears every day. And I am not about to start doing that. But there are always some things going on to mention. Like....

Today's daily ragsheet, Por Esto, is reporting that the local police stole personal items from Renee Waltheter's apartment while they had it cordoned off from the public. This is the poor woman who was brutally murdered here recently. If that is true, that they took her laptop, iPod and other personal items for their own use, then I'm not sure this is a place I really want to live. It is so despicable, so criminal, so I don't know what on their part. It offends me to no end to think that the very people who are supposed to be protecting us are robbing us. This is not the first time I have heard such an accusation. This is the first time I have seen it in print though.

The street light on our corner was turned off last May. I understand why and approve of the reason why. May to July is when the turtles come ashore to lay their eggs, including on the beach right across the street from me. They hate lights so it is a good thing to turn off the street lights to encourage them to come ashore. However, egg laying season is waaaaaay over now. We went to public works to ask them to turn it back on now. They told us no. The Director of Egg Laying and Bullcrap, or some such title, has not given them permission to turn the lights back on. She says that it is still possible that turtles will come ashore and lay some eggs. I think somebody better send her back to turtle reproductive school for a refresher course. This particular corner is very busy and very dark. It is dangerous to have no light there. Especially since many kids pass through here on their way home from school. I guess better a dead kid than a rotten egg.

So I guess I'm only suffering from a gentle case of blogger blahs!

I think you do pretty good! But I sure know what you mean:)

Do you believe Por Esto on the stealing issue?

hope you get over that gentle case soon! I know what you mean about the blahs--have gotten them myself & you've been at this much longer than me. Got any photos from before you started your blog? Photos from before you moved to Isla? I dug back into the vault for photos from the 70's this week!

You could walk to your front door, snap a new picture every day and I would still log on to look at it. I never get tired of that view. Especially from about 11:00am to 1:00pm when the reef is so visible!

I don't think I could write a blog 5 days a week, on a schedule. I write when I feel inspired - sometimes I could write twice a day, other times it's a week in between. All depends what else is going on too - often I have material in my head but no time to write it down, and when I find the time, the material in my head is gone. But don't stop writing and taking pictures, I would really miss your blog!

Hello
I live in Florida, where we also have sea turtle season. But I thought the reason for turning off the lights at the beach is so that the turtles are able to find the ocean. Artificial lighting distracts and disorients the turtles and interfers with the hatched turtles being able to find the ocean. They will travel towards the light, rather than towards the water. Not sure though.

I can relate to getting the blogger blahs!

Don't stop! Ease into other things. What did you eat? Have your table manners changed here, etc. People do thirst for the scoop from an insider's view, and gawd knows mine is limited!

Please Please Please .. don't stop blogging! I never get tired of looking at the beach and that beautiful blue water! Just show us pictures while you are thinking of a story to write.

When I start running low I go out and read all of my blogging friends posts - AND - click on new blogs to get some fresh perspective. Somewhere along the line something someone writes will inspire me or remind me of something and I find myself with new ideas. :) Good luck to you - and don't quit! I think once you quit for a while and get out of the habit of writing is when it gets REALLY hard to get geared up again. :)

I agree with Sue, maybe loosening your schedule would make you feel less blah.

I go through this every once in a while, just give yourself a break whenever you are uninspired, your readers love you and will go with the flow!

First time commenting on your site. Hoping you don't quit. First thing I look at each morning when I get to work (don't tell my supervisor!!). My wife and I have been to Isla 7 straight years and coming down twice this winter!! Anyway, my favorite part most days is the pictures you post from the island, so if don't feel like writing much, just a couple of pictures would be more than fine. Gets my day off to a good start!!

I can certainly relate but you know that.

I believe Por Esto in this but I wonder why they are publishing it. They are so politically owned that there must be another angle to it or they wouldn't report it.

I can see some corrupt cop thinking that the dead don't need iPods or laptops. It's horrible but for me it is worse when they steal evidence or steal from the living. Well, not worse, just equally as distasteful. I guess you just have to turn away from the garbage and look at the beauty.

Wayne, I've decided to become less regimented about blogging and post when the spirit moves me. I still probably average 5 days a week -- maybe less some weeks. I had gotten O.C.D. about it (and I do have those tendencies!).

I'd read on a message board that Renee's stuff was perhaps stolen. That is sickening.

Wayne, You don’t have to publish every day. No one is making you. After all you are retired. Take a few days off to recharge your creativity. It doesn’t take much to entertain us, your readers. I loved the stitched photo the other day and your one line commentary.

I have a simple solution...if you've nothing to write, don't write it! Us bloggers aren't newspapers with deadlines, circulation targets and manic editors.

I write primarily for myself. It's my online diary. Sometimes I write something specifically to share, but a lot of the time I just write it for memory's sake. That's not to say I don't like comments and conversations developing on my blog. They're great. Makes my day sometimes. But they are a bonus, not the purpose.

Something interesting to wrote about always come along sooner or later. Enjoy the PC free time till then!

Wayne - I am the opposite in that I always seem to have five Blog's running in my head and only allowed to write one (time allowances). I have to contain myself to about 800 words per entry (use to be 1000 before Global Post).

In a half of decade I have written well over 500,000 words worth of Blog entries - that is the length of 7 average books - but whose counting?

Also, currently slowed down to about 3 entries a week because of Global Post printing schedule.

Now that we are moving to town I don't have Internet access yet there - so I am REALLY slowed down ;-(

Please if possible don't change a thing - all the good things seem to go away sooner or later - I don't want your Blog to be one of them.

This may sound like a echo but I rely on your blog as a realtime link to Isla. You have great content. I may be a little lax at commenting but I really do enjoy reading your writings.
I think all Bloggers get the Blahs from time to time.It will pass, and tomorrow is another day if you take a break from the daily grind.

Wayne, it does seem to be going around. As others have said, give yourself a break, it doesn't have to be everyday. I've slowed down a LOT, I only posted once this week. I was giving myself a hard time about it, but heck, it's my blog, I'll post when I feel like it and you should do the same! Brutal reading about the cops stealing from Renee, heavy sigh.

There is some weird moon phase or something, everyone I know is feeling out of it and not particularly positive about things. It seems to go in waves, we get a few weeks of bad news all the time and we certainly get affected by it. Let's hope it passes soon and we can all get back to our normal flow. Hugs bro!
