This photo was taken last Sunday night downtown on Hidalgo. It was about 10 PM. At least service is really good now.

WE LEFT THE RAT RACE EIGHT YEARS AGO AND RETIRED TO THIS LITTLE ISLAND IN THE CARIBBEAN. THIS IS MY ACCOUNT OF THE TRIALS, TRIBULATIONS, AND LITTLE JOYS OF LIVING IN MEXICO.

Glad that service is good, but it's sad to see Hidalgo so empty. Hope the summer vacationers start showing up soon!
Gotta say that the pavers look great compared to what preceded them ....
O Robert
The pavers look very nice! But it reminds me of how it looked after Wilma when restaurants first started opening.
At least you have cafes that look like cafes rather than piles of recycled plastic ware.
Wow. Thats sad.
Wow...that's really sad. I like Isla during the slow season, but that's a little TOO slow! I feel bad for all the poor merchants.
Sad, Sad, Sad ....
Things are quiet here in Mazatlán, too, but not THAT quiet!
Local business owners in San Miguel de Allende complain they've been hit with three disasters in a row: drug violence reports, the economic collapse, and the swine flu epidemic. A cabbie told me yesterday he didn't make enough in May to pay for the medicines he's supposed to take. Today I discovered my favorite café has closed. A lot of people are hurting...
Playa got hit hard too but seems to be rebounding quickly. Planes are full coming in and the traffic is back to its normal madness. It's been "the perfect storm" of disasters but still we carry on.
That is sad to see. The airport had a few people in there today, but there was no line-up for check-in and the airport was not packed. Did see a nice line-up at the ferry, so hopefully more people are coming every day. And ditto to what John wrote - the taxi driver we use is barely scraping enough together to eat too. Tough times.
From everything I am hearing things are pretty bad on Isla. If it were not so hot and humid during the summer hurricane months I would book a trip. As it is I probably won’t be back on Isla until October.
