New Bas Relief

Took a drive out to South Point the other day. I wanted to see how much progress is being made out there. They are in the process of modernizing it and making it safer for dumb tourists who can't stay away from the edge of the cliffs.

Here's a few shots of the statues they are integrating into the wall they are building around the place. Except for the first photo. That's just for artsy-fartsy purposes!

Is the wall being built along the cliffs or along the paths so you can't go out to the edge? We only go down there every few years or if we have some newbies with us...

Jam: if you look at the last photo you can see the new wall on the left of the picture. It's that low stone thing.

Oh thanks. We wondered what they were doing when we drove out there in April. At least it is not more of the other art that is out there.

Maybe someone could drag that art deco nude lamp out to the cliffs. She would fit in quite well, it appears.

"Refinement" sets my teeth on edge.

Jackie: art? Do you mean those horrible pieces of rusting metal that they expect you to pay to get an upclose view of?

steve: you have the memory of an elephant! it took me a few seconds to realize what you are talking about!

babs: mmmmm. I always thought of you as being quite refined.

It seems to take only one dumb tourist. Nice pictures, never seen Mexico, so I thought I would drop in and see your blog as you have been to mine for the first time.

Sorry, I forgot type "art????????" so you would know that I was not serious. You just couldn't hear the sacarasm in my voice.

Now, Wayne ...... Art is a very personal thing .... for everyone who says the stuff out there is ka-ka, I can find you an equal number who swoon in it's presence.

Personally, there may be some pieces that are better than others, but the alternative could even be a portrait of Dale Earhnhart ..... think about it ..... or even W. .....Sometimes we don't know how lucky we are.

At any rate, art, for anyone's sake, is art ... it provokes the mind, it makes you think .... you don't hafta love it, just acknowledge that it is an expression of a human soul.

The open expanse of Pont de Sur is an interesting plan 'B", but someone, at some point, felt that an exhibition of sculpture would be a good thing. Let's not condemn the motivation, but celebrate this over the rotten commercial alternatives that coulda been there...

All this from an art gallery owner ..... we need more thought provoking influences in our lives .... you're not expected to love 'em all .... just smile because they're there.
