** This post is not intended to be read by golf cart renters on the island! **
There's a new business on the east side of the island. It's the new Corona/Modelo distributor building.
As part of the design they now have a drive-thru area to purchase beer from your car.
Actually you have to get out of your car, but you are guaranteed a shady spot to park! The inside is lined with coolers filled with 6-packs of that distributors brands. Brands like Corona, Modelo, Modelo Especial and Pacifico.
You just pick out which cold one you need, step across to the teller, pay the nice person and you are on your way!
I think it is a great idea. I wish the Superior distributor would do this too. As it is now, it is hard to find a spot to park and you have to carry your case up and down steps to get back to your car.
Good thing I only have to do it every couple of days!

As long as they don't start building drive through restaurants!
Wow! Thanks for posting this - my husband sells Corona/Modelo Group products here in TX, and I know he'll get a HUGE kick out of this visual! Sometimes he goes to MZT for business, but I don't think they have anything quite like this over there!
I wish you could have those up here were I live!!
Snazzy architecture. But I read your last sentence too quickly. I thought you were stopping to get beer "a couple timnes per day." A re-read calmed my Carrie Nation notions.
Whereabouts on the Eastside? Looks like it'd be on the outer road. Can you ride a bike through the drive-through? LOL I'm just scouting it out for Craig.
As a visitor in Mach - it was open then - and as a golf cart renter....I did stop (for my passengers) - and we didn't even have to get off the golf cart!
You got this one first, I was going to blog about it too.
Anything, it's not something we needed so close to home, but I think Miguel drinks Sol, so maybe we're ok...(although he will probably drink anything when he wants a beer).
Did you notice they also have cases of snacks and it even looks like ice cream? Just noticed as we drove by. I think it's a good concept.
Jamqueen: Have you not seen the Mango Cafe? They have a window over which is painted "Drive Thru".
Susan: Let's ask Nancy. Any beer drive thrus in MZT, Nancy?
Lisa: Aren't they called 7-11?
Steve: Not to worry. I'm lucky if I go thru a case in a month. I mostly keep beer around for visitors. I hardly ever drink at home.
LAB: You can't miss it. It's almost across from Oscar's. (the place with the menu printed on a surfboard)
Anon: Glad you added that it was for your passengers!
Sue: no reason you can't blog about it too!
Yes, I find the snack cases to be really rewarding! It's nice for the occasional Negro too! You neglected to mention the name. Modelarama. For those familiar with Decembers here, de la rama is the 70 some verse kids for peosos. Trick or treat for Jesus, I call it. Modelarama is just too close not to be toyed with!
I remember watching and wondering what it was going to be when it was under construction. I have driven by it many times but never have gone through the drive thru. Maybe next trip just to check it out.
What an amazingly wonderful idea. I remember that the liquor store in Arizona had a drive through and i remember thinking how (at the time) it was very handy and cool. But sort of a strange combo.
Hey! It looks like "Isla" is finally catching up with Merida! We've had them around for quite a while! Very handy and convenient.
Salud!
Merida Mikey
Hi Merida Mikey - Okay, now I'm really curious. Are the ones in Merida attached to or run by the beer distributors or are they independently operated? In the US, beer distributors can only sell to licensed retailers. So, it's very interesting to see how it's handled in MX. I knew TJ would get a kick of seeing Groupo Modelo selling direct to the public. It makes sense, though, to cut out the middle man!
In Leon they have a nice drive through beer shop, too. It is shaped like a giant beer can.
You can see it HERE
Really impressive. :-)
Susan -
I have no idea! Ours are shaped like igloos! There are others like the one in Isla, but I have no idea who runs them. I think the igloos are independently owned though, and the others are run by the beer companies.
In any event, God Bless them all!
Merida Mikey
