Facebook?

Please understand one thing. I am not trying to be rude or offend anybody here. But I feel the time has come to make one thing clear about me.

I do not do Facebook.

I have checked it out and it is just not a time waster that I want to waste my time with. I know that there are literally thousands of you out there who think it is the best thing since sliced bread. (I wonder what was the best thing before sliced bread??)

So if any of you have gotten the Ignore answer from me, please don't take it personally. It's just something I don't want to start up with. And I don't want you wasting your time sending me things via Facebook that I am not going to pay any attention to.

Send me an email or leave a comment on my Blog instead. Those I pay strict attention to!

I'm on Facebook at the request of friends, but I don't spend much time there. I tend to agree with you. Besides being another way to waste time, I also see people giving out way too much information. In addition,I just saw a 60 Minutes piece about the social networking sites being the next big vulnerability for spreading dangerous viruses/worms.
I like blogging!

LAB: I am so not into reading "I just had granola for breakfast!" and crap like that. Don't people have better things to do? I agree though that people are giving out way too much information on this site. I think they tend to think they are only talking to friends and forget that they are on the internet.

It fills a void for the recently unemployed and under employed. It's like a group hug on a sinking economic ship. Cancel you account and try a little less righteous indignation!

I don't do Facebook either. I have been encouraged and invited - but the value of the entire concept alludes me.

I suppose one might suggest Blogging is much the same - but actually I think not.

Blogging seems adult - Facebook seems childish - just my slant on it.

I agree with you Wayne - too much information. I have a Facebook but forget to look at it and sure don't post personal info on it like I do on the blog.....I have it, but don't get it!
And then there is Twitter - are people who do that Twits?

Hallelujah! I don't facebook either, but I have my own conspiracy theory reasons for not joining (the aliens are on facebook ya know!) hahahahaa!

Zina: oooh. Did we step on somebody's toes? Don't be so sensitive.

Calypso: I so agree with you. I just checked out my Facebook page (which I never add anything to) to see what might be there. Who cares who is hot, who had what for breakfast or what they scored on some online survey. Childish.

Babs: LOL! If the past tense is Twatter, what does that make them then! hahaha!

lisa: I think they may be closer than you think!

Actually, I think a medium called "Organ Observers" might be a good idea; we can all look inside each others' body cavities and chat or at least monitor andintermingle with each others' spleens, etc. I don't know about you, but that's one facet of my life that I've neglected.....!

(Say "Hi!" to my appendix the first chance you get .... and don't forget to ask what it's doing at that moment!!!)

I've reconnected with old friends I haven't seen in many years on FB. I love it. As for too much information, the only people who can see my FB information are the people I allow as "friends." To each their own, but for many people it's a fun, harmless hobby.

I'm terrible at keeping up with email, so FB allows me to quickly post a comment about someone's photo or say hi.

I am curious...if you don't FB, why do you even have an account?

o robert: now I am definately sure that I would not join that group either!

Heather: Long ago, the first time I ever got an invite for FB, I created an account so I could accept the invitation. Not knowing what it was all about. I spent some time scrolling around and decided it just wasn't for me. Since then I have gotten over 50 Friends invites, a lot of them from people I have never even heard of. That concerns me. I think the suggestion that I just close my account is a good one. If I'm not going to use it, why have it? I can see where it could be a useful thing, almost a thing of joy for people. It just isn't my cup of tea. I wonder why people get so defensive when I say I don't like it. Maybe tomorrow I will say I don't like mushrooms and see how many people attack me for that.

My opinion of FB is the same as your opinion. I don't like it nor do I use it. I've been on Twitter for a couple of weeks, but I think it is the same as FB.

I am on Facebook. I have a lot of friends who live all over the country and rather than a bunch of email flying around we can all read what each other is up to there. I do not accept invites to be friends with people I barely know or do not know at all. I got an invite from some man that I had never heard of so I went and looked at his profile and saw that he was on the Cisco Network so he found me on the Qwest Network. Cisco is a vendor/partner of Qwest. In other words we sell their data equipment. So I can see that he was looking for internal Qwest contacts. So some people use FB as a means of business networking on a less professional scale than LinkedIn.
Now I most certainly do agree with you on the mushroom front. I hate any form of mushroom Just going on record for when you do make that post. ;>)

Thanks for all of your comments. I seem to have started a mini tempest in a teapot here. Certainly didn't mean to! I think I will just bring my commenting to an end by saying - If you like FB, like it. If you don't, don't. It's your choice and to each his own.

You did not step on any toes. What are you talking about???? Most of my Ohio friends have recently been laid off. And in case you haven't noticed, the economy is a sinking ship. Oooh, don't read so much into stuff. No wonder Facebook is not for you! Don't read too much into that, either!

I don't do facebook, twitter or that stuff, because I am a closet luddite! Actually because I am easily addicted to stuff like that so I have to limit my exposure. Sort of like not going to bars if you are an alcoholic.
I just don't want to do it.

Theresa

I too have a FB profile, but only because so many friends put their photos out there.
I agree too much info is exposed; So, it's not for me as a participant, but OK for me as a lurker and viewer. And I agree, why do all your friends need to know you just got up and are having coffee, by the way I am also doing laundry, and eating coffee cake, and planning my day; just in case you wanted to know!

I like FB mainly because it is an easy way to keep up with what my 5 kids are up to. They live far and wide not usually emailing their mother much ! So it is a way for a glimps into their daily lives ! I still love reading blogs though.... Kelly
