A Special Thank You

This is a difficult yet joyous post for me to write. But only because it is such an emotionally charged one for me. So here goes.

When I conceived the idea of Project Warm Hearts a few months ago, I really had no idea that it would generate such an overwhelming response. I just wanted to help some kids have a nice Christmas and to stay a little warmer...physically and emotionally. Thanks to you, my fantastically great readers, that desire has blossomed like the prettiest flower you can imagine.

I certainly did not achieve this alone. I had a lot of help along the way. And it's recognize the contributions of others.

John (Juan) and Anita. Without them, none of this would have happened. They have expended a great deal of time, energy, emotion and money in helping to make sure clothing and hats were fairly disseminated to the populace of Ursulo Galvan. Anita made special shopping trips to purchase much needed items for people and Christmas gifts for the kids. And she purchased the stuff with the $900 that was donated to this project. $900!!!! Juan reports that a party was held on December 22 for the local children, hosted by them and their friend, Veronica. All of the hats were given out, over $100 in toys were distributed, people were fed, pinatas were broken open and everybody had a wonderful time. Plus Santa even made an appearance! People, you are fantastic.

I dare you to go here and read Juan's account of the party and not shed a tear or two.

Even some of Santa's helpers showed up to help!

Vicente Garcia. He who graciously loaned his mailing address so that we could get our packages to Juan and Anita and the citizens of Ursulo Galvan.

Nancy Dardarian who had the best intentions to knit some hats but family pregnancies (not hers!) kept getting in the way. So she did the next best thing. She bought a healthy supply of books for the children and contributed to the kids future. Good going Nancy!

And let's not forget Theresa Diaz de Gray. She put me to shame with the fantastic hats and scarves that she made for the project. I literally gasped when I first saw the picture of them.

I'm sure this little girl did too when she got to pick one out. Juan reports that she even had a dress to match! Look how good this looks on the recipient.

Talk about sharing. Juan reports that one hat was given per family. As a result, these two sisters shared one of my hats. I hope lovingly!

I love this shot that Juan got of the little sister. Look at the jaunty way the hat sits on her head and note, yes note, those eyes! Like liquid pools of love that you could just dive into!

And let's not forget Vicki over at Simple Knits. It was her free, simple to knit Freedom Hat Pattern that really got me to pushing out the hats!

I still remember how awestruck I was when Brandon and Trish Herrera came walking down the street with this BIG bag of yarn to donate. What an incredibly nice thing to do.

And what about Dora the Explorer generously carried down here and donated to the cause by Kelly Hansel? She and her husband also made a cash donation. Sweethearts, both of them. (Anita reports that Juan even had one resting on his computer monitor for awhile!)

There are so many other people to thank. Without their caring and generosity, this project would not have come close to what it was. In no particular order, my thanks go out to:
KATHY W - USA
ANONYMOUS - USA
JACKIE - USA
ANONYMOUS - USA
JUDITH SEARL

SANDY DICKSON - USA
RANDLE CROFT - USA
ANONYMOUS - MEXICO
TRUDY MOLONEY - USA

BONNIE & CHARLES CALAHAN - USA
ANOZIRA LANDSCAPING COMPANY - USA
ANONYMOUS - USA
DANIEL JUSTNES - NORWAY/MEXICO

One more cutie and I'll leave you alone to enjoy your Christmas Day.

Happy Holidays everybody and thanks for making it a special one for so many people!

Wayne -- And a very special thanks to you for putting this project in front of all of us as a challenge -- and as an act of love. This is what christmas is about. Not acquiring, but treating others as we wish to be treated.

This is fantastic news Wayne! I read bout all of the gifts but had not heard the amount of money that was contributed. I only wish that I had done more. Of course there is always next year! Thank you for allowing us, your readers to participate in such a worthwhile cause. And that goes to Juana and Anita and everyone else that helped this effort be such a success.
Yes, I had already read Juan’s post and cried over it.

I am overjoyed for you and the success of your project. I live farther south in Honduras, but mountains make some of the areas quite cool. I can see a project like this perhaps in my future. Thanks for the uplifting post.
