Frustrating

All we want to do is to be good people and help out good people. So why must it be so hard?

The more I hear from people about this paying duty issue, the more frustrated I get. And John, over in Xico, even admits that the corruption level in his small town is as great as anywhere else in Mexico. Nobody can guarantee that anything we send to the good people of Xico is actually going to make it to them. I know, I know, life contains no guarantees to begin with.

John has come up with an alternate solution. Especially for those of you who just want to do something nice but don't live in Mexico. He has a PayPal button on his website. Instead of actually sending something that may or not make it to the people of Xico, go on over to his website and click that button. Make a donation. Nobody really cares how much or how little you care to give. Just give! Mark your donation PROJECT WARM HANDS. John will gather this money and use it to buy clothing and other items of need for this community. He knows his village and what would help them to live better lives. Be it for the body, the house or the soul.

For my part, I'm still going to keep on knitting and send the box of stuff I first intended to. You can too, but at least now you have another way to help. And I hope you do.

To get to John's site, either click on his link in the sidebar, or go to VivaVeracruz here.

If you do make a donation, please let me know so that I can include you in my Christmas thank you blog!

Wayne, when I send the "coats to Creel" I send them to an individual that hands them out to the Tarahumara children through the mission there. BUT the difference is they were shipping within Mexico.
The solution for the stuff in the USA is to have a central point people can ship things to and then someone driving to the states can bring it all back in their car and ship it on the bus to Xico........
Good Luck!

So sad that is such a complicated matter to help people out. It's good of you and John to take such an active interest, kudos! I think you are right, a monetary donation and local shopping will go much further than trying to send something.

Great job my friend, keep up the good work!

Oh well! At least those of us in Mexico can still mail to them.

I've just got to put aside the blanket for a bit and do some hats, but I am hooked on it right now, I love the pattern.

Thanks for all your efforts Wayne.

Count the tacogirl and tacoboy in for a small donation - love the idea of project warm hands.
