I'm Going International!

So here's the scoop. I'm getting off the island for three whole weeks! I can't wait. My destination?

Why, Minnesota of course! Actually the border towns of Taylors Falls and St Croix Falls.

I'll be visiting old friends, hitting the outlet malls, going to the Mall of America (against my wishes), drinking tons of coffee at my old hang out and immersing myself in so much fiber that I am sure I am going to think I died and landed in wool/llama/mohair/alpaca heaven and (drum roll!)

Going to the Great Minnesota Get Together, otherwise known as the Minnesota State Fair!

I will be gone August 14 to Sept 3 but don't despair. I will be updating on my international adventures while there. Prepare yourself for seeing how many things Minnesotans can cook on a stick! And wait until you see the Butter Princesses, a must see item!

Ok, back to making lists and packing!

When you are at the State Fair, check out the "Hot Dish on a Stick." My friend Karen and her husband Charlie have that food booth!! I think the new thing this year is frozen/fried pickle juice on a stick....eeeeeewwwwwwww!!
Have a great and safe trip. You will only be about 1 hour away from me when you are at The Mall of America.

Sounds like fun GRINGO. Our own little home-grown fair is next week - the Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society Fair. Our kids and grandkids come home for it and the end of Summer fireworks. I'll try to blog it.

kw: the heaviest thing I intend to lift is going to be between sesame buns!

jackie: wait until you see the butter princesses! (yes, plural!) They are a Minnesota institution.

brenda: i can't wait to see what kind of culture shock awaits. I'm sure it will seem like the otro lado after all this time!

trixie: i'm writing that down and i'm going to tell them that they have to give me a free one or you will never speak to them again! LOL! I will probably be giving the frozen pickle juice a miss. Although I do like the deep fried dill pickle chips.

nana: sounds like fun. do blog it!

nancy: i'm shocked, shocked you hear me, that you would even think that i would get into trouble! but the yarn. oh, the yarn!

barry: only a true Scandahoovian would know about Lutefisk! Might as well make some fish flavored jello. Same thing only without the smell!

jamqueen: let me guess. you're entering your world famous jam?

Lutefisk---UGH GROSS, that stuff truly has to be an acquired taste. I tried it once at a family dinner where it is a Christmas delicacy and even with all the butter on it, it was still disgusting. As you say fish flavored gelatin; but hot. EWWW

Wayne -- Give my best to Princess Kay of the Milky Way. Ironically, I had thought of being there myself this year. May you have traveling mercies.

Been there, done that...having gone to the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Loved it...it's a great city.

Took my three sons to the Mall of America back in 2003...lost the youngest while we were there. Still haven't found him. I'm kidding of course. It was actually ME who was lost! Have a great time!

Have a great vacation, Wayne. Not sure I want to know about all the things you're going to eat off of a stick. And Mall of America - shudder. Butter princess? Probably best if I just leave that one alone!

I'll be working on the video while you're gone. I promise, I will figure it out or have new videos shot! You will have your video.

Don't forget your duct tape, powder milk biscuits or be-bop-a-ree-bop rhubarb pie. :)

Garrison Keilor played the state fair last year - we had hoped to get up there to see it. We all huddle around the wireless (well, satellite wireless but whatever) and listen to PHC each and every Saturday night (or replay Sunday am).

Enjoy and if you see Garrison or Sue or Tom give them some Mexican cheer!
