An Amazing Plant

I have no idea what this plant is but it sure is interesting. I tried three different days to get good shots of it but the wind keeps fighting. I finally had to settle for these slightly out of focus blowing in the wind ones. I was afraid I was going to miss the blooming period otherwise.

It's kind of like clusters of beans, all spiraling down like strands of DNA.

It looks like some of them have started to go to seed.

A closer look.

Anybody have any ideas as to what this is?

I don't know the proper name for the plant, but in many parts in Mexico it is known as "arbol de colorin"(corolin tree). The little beans are called colorines and you can make jewelery with them, such as bracelets and necklaces.

velvet: thanks for the info. I think I might go back over there and collect some seeds, just for the heck of it!

According to my Mexican novio, it is called Guamuchil, although according to this site there are other names as well:

It is an interesting plant, indeed!

They are called guamĂșchiles and are edible. Some say they're quite tasty. I am personally not a big fan.
