Close Quarters

Here's a classic example of how difficult it is to drive around downtown nowadays. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have seen big delivery trucks scrape against buildings, cars and knock down scooters. They even hit the overhanging signs from the businesses. This gas delivery truck didn't hit anything (this time!) but look how close he gets.

Not much room on the other side either!

Now throw in the tourists who think this island is a theme park and walk around with their fingers in their noses going "Ohhh, ain't this pretty Harold!", totally oblivious to the fact that people live here and we need to get things done. Somebody mentioned in Comments yesterday that almost getting run over by scooters downtown gets old. Well, not being able to get down the already crowded streets because the tourists walk in the MIDDLE of the road and ignore the sidewalks gets old fast also. To those who would say that not all streets have useable sidewalks, I say this: then at least walk on the edge of the road and be aware of traffic coming up behind you. I could go on and on about this but enough already.

Hubby and I watched that gas truck trying to maneuver rounding the corner from Juarez to Matamoros last week while we waited to go to Contoy with Capt. Tony - I've got some pretty scary photos of that too!
