We had lunch at a very nice palapa restaurant in "downtown" Akumal on Saturday. Jonna was able to join us and she and I talked each other's legs off! Well, almost anyway.
After lunch we all piled into our cars (or Jeep Wrangler if you were lucky!) and headed the one mile to Jonna and Mimi's condo. If you are familiar with their blog, then you have seen pictures of it. Let me tell you, it is a lot nicer in person. The living area opens via really wide sliding doors to a huge patio overlooking the beach and ocean. All in all, a great living space that they have put a lot of thought, work and love into.
After several hours of snorkeling and just plain visiting, we said our goodbyes and headed back north to Playa del Carmen. We knew our reservation was for a hotel on Quinta Ave, the main pedestrian shopping street. What we didn't know was that we would have to drive a half a block down this pedestrian only street to reach the offstreet parking included with the hotel! What a nightmare! B and L walked in front of the car as I gingerly made my way along. I felt really creepy for driving in a pedestrian zone, but what was I to do? I'm sure I was not the first person to do this, as evidenced by the other cars already in the parking lot!
We dropped off our stuff off at the room and headed out for a much needed cup of java. That done and feeling a bit of an energy boost, we headed back to the room to get cleaned up for dinner and a night on the town. We spent several hours just roaming Quinta Ave and looking in the shops before finally stopping for dinner. We chose to eat at Babe's, a Thai restaurant. After dinner we walked a bit more and stopped at a few bars for a couple of drinks. Not a late night but an enjoyable ending to an enjoyable day.
The next day, Sunday, we headed back to Cancun and spent several hours stocking up on groceries and stuff since we already had the car on that side of the island. Caught the ferry home and just comfortably vegged out Sunday night.
All in all a very nice weekend and just what the doctor ordered!

Awwww... thanks for saying such nice things. I really felt like we'd known each other a long time.
Now, I have to get off my butt and send you the pictures and post on my blog. We've just been laying around and sleeping since our friends left on Monday. Time to get back to life.
