It's a hyperbolic chamber. Good thing we have it. Just since July it has been used no less than 7 times for fishermen/divers who have stayed down too long in their pursuit of the almighty lobster. Just to show you how unusual this number is, last year it was used twice.

Hyperbaric medicine seems to be in vogue, at least in Mexico. One of our local hospitals has a hyperbaric chamber, and we're an eight-hour drive from any deep water here in the Bahio. Someone told me it's used to speed healing of wounds. I once thought it might be used to treat altitude sickness, but we're only at 6400'.
I wonder if this trend is in the USA as well.
Maybe it's a case of "if you build it, they will come". I'm glad it's there.
I have heard they are used to treat persistent/life threatening staff infections. Don't know if that's factual, however with the number of staff infections on the rise, that might explain why there are more being constructed.
