Late yesterday afternoon I happened to glance out the window and saw this:
Yawn. A boat. But not just any boat. This one is totally different from the fishing boats here on the island. It is painted black. Ours are all white with blue trim. That was the first unusual bit. The second was that it was there at all.
It's a bad picture, I know, but those are four foot swells out there. They are very dangerously close to the rocks that form part of the broken reef. AND the harbor master here has not yet opened the ocean for fishermen. None of our boats are allowed out to sea yet.
I watched for quite awhile as they slowly drifted around in circles. They kept dropping something into the water, not a net, and slowly pulled it back in. I could not tell what it was. They were out there until it got dark, doing the same thing. I'm not the only one that thought it unusual. Cars and scooters were stopping along the road to watch them.
When I got up this morning, at approximately 6:43am EDT, they were still out there! Or had recently returned. As I watched, a fully clothed man jumped overboard and swam to shore. There was another man waiting on shore. Boat man gave him something and then shore man left on his motor scooter. Boat man than fought his way back out to the waiting boat, climbed aboard and they sped off down the coast. Mmmmm.
Twenty minutes later thay are back, minus the man who jumped into the water. Doing their slow circles again. This is so very strange but I will probably never know what is really going on out there.
