Blogs I read and why

I don't normal post on Sundays. Every one needs a day off. However, today is a really blah rainy day so I thought it a good time to finally do this post. So here goes, my take on various blogs.

BILLIEBLOG

Billie Mercer lives in a refurbished home in San Miquel de Allende. A city with many gringos and a place to easily loose sight of the fact that one is really in Mexico. I give Billie high marks for not loosing sight of this. She comes across as a very sophisticted, well read and totally nice person. She also occassionally exhibits a trait I very much like in people....the ability to laugh at oneself. But one of the nicest things about her blog is the photos. She is a professional and it shows. Give her a visit.

BRENDA AND ROY GOING TO MEXICO

What a nice gal that Brenda is! She and her husband spent 6 months living in Guaymas and loved it so much that they sold everything they owned and moved there permanently. Bam, just like that. And she has never looked back. (except to make fun of Canadian weather!) She and Roy have really lucked out with their landlords, who have also become friends. Not once have I ever heard her complain about the way things are done (or not done!) in Mexico. She rolls with every situation thrown at her and actually revels in new challenges. And it sounds like she just may be a great cook too!

CARIBBEAN COLORS

The actual name of this blog is Back to Living in Paradise. Written by a woman who left the rat race behind and moved to the tiny, tiny island of Caye Caulker, Belize. While living there she evidently fell in love with a native because she married him! He is the brunt of a lot of her humor, which to say the least, is sharp and right on. I love it when she recreates actual conversations, complete with Belizean accent! This woman actually makes me laugh out loud. She doesn't post as often as I would like, but when she does, they are doozies!

JOHN'S BLOG

With apologies to my other bloggers, if there is one blog about Mexico that you should read, this is it. Not the tiniest scrap of detail escapes this man's attention. He lives in San Miguel de Allende also. His humor is definitely the tongue in cheek kind. It is easy to see that John loves his new found home of Mexico. Check it out but do so only when you have a lot of time. You will find yourself going from page to page, loosing all track of time.

MY LIFE IN CHACALA

What a fresh voice Andy has. She sees things around her with almost a childlike innocence and joy. A single woman, she had the guts to just pick up and move to a rather isolated part of Mexico where, most of the time, she is the only gringa to be seen. It has been a difficult battle for her at times. Trying to learn the language, customs and intricacies of a new country all by herself with no help or support. She writes from a part of Mexico many of us have never seen but now know intimately, thanks to her ability to tell a good story. When something happens that she doesn't like or doesn't understand, she just shrugs her shoulders and says "Whatever" and moves on to the next adventure. This woman has spirit, courage and determination.

PURE FLORIDA

Not the sort of blog I usually read. This guy is a native Floridian and proud of it. He is also a junior high school science teacher and his blog is full of wonderful and interesting facts about the nature around him. He, too, has a knack for photography with some stunning stuff. He writes his blog like he is writing to a close personal friend and it works. I really do feel like he is talking just to me.

THE PANOPTICAN

I have included this for the knitters whom I know read my blog. Franklin is a single gay man living in Chicago who's passion is knitting. He even knits in the subway, gawkers be damned! This is really a niche blog for knitters but his "roommate", Doloros the sheep, is a hoot and a half! She is always up to some shinangigan or the other. Worth a look.

VIVA VERACRUZ

John and his wife Anita have probably the most Mexican living experience of any of us. He lives just outside the tiny town of Xico in the state of Veracruz. John is an old time rock and roller and tells it like it is. He is also an avid conservationist and has built a composting outhouse! His tag line to every post is Stay Tuned! and we all do.
