Saturday Stuff

Ah, it's Saturday! Of course, that means nothing to us since we are retired and there is no such thing as a weekend anymore. Weekends don't exist here anyway. Mexicans work at least until 2pm on Saturday and only have Sunday off. Sunday is a big family day here.

The weather has taken a turn for the nice again. Bright sunshine and a few soft clouds floating by. Temps in the low 80's, perfect time of year. We decided we needed to get out of the house. We didn't want to go downtown to North Beach. The beaches there have really eroded and the limited space is crowded right now, to say the least. So we opted to go to "The Club". I'm not saying where it is because it is our special little getaway place on the island. They have a beautiful beach with those cloth lounge chairs instead of plastic. You can have drinks or food brought to your lounger, practically with just a snap of your fingers. They also have two fresh water pools. A wading pool, about 3' deep with a whirlpool that above one end of it that cascades over to send a waterfall into the pool. The other one is about 8' deep at the deep end but no diving allowed.

After we had sweated for awhile we decided we were hungry. They were not serving food today because they are setting up for a wedding there tonight. So we decided to try a restaurant on the bay side of the island we had not tried before, El Vecaro de Oscar. We started with some nachos then I had the shrimp ceviche, L had the seafood soup and B had a shrimp cocktail. My ceviche was enough to feed all three of us by itself. We found the place a bit pricey but the food was good. Not stupendous but I didn't feel like I was being cheated either. The total bill, drinks and tip included was 375 pesos. ($34.78 US) Kind of pricey for lunch but we don't do that sort of thing very often.

Our neighbor J was out in front of his house doing something when we pulled in so we walked over, just to be nosy. He had found an old pallet that the electric company had brought insulators over on and was busy tearing it apart. He is going to rearrange the boards and make a wall hanging out of it. Sounds ghastly but I think it is actually going to be really cool when he is done with it. He is a pretty clever guy.

Yeah! L just got back from a quick trip downtown and he was finally able to rent Superman Returns. Guess what we will be doing this Saturday night!
