Lost Focus

I seem to have lost the focus of this blog, and thus my interest in it.

Over the years it had slowly morphed itself into a depiction of only the island.  I was becoming nothing but a travelogue of how beautiful this place is.  It was hard for me to keep that up because, as much as I love it, it is not always a beautiful place to live.  Nowhere is.

Blogging was something new to the internet when I started this blog.  Over the years many new voices have chimed in.  There are now several blogs that focus entirely on the island and nothing else.  Some of them are quite good and I read them myself.  I recommend that if you are interested only in the island, you do a Google search and find some of them.

I just went through one of the hardest years of my life and it took a great toll on me.  And it has changed who I am and how I view life in general now.  It has been two months since my brother passed and the grief within me is as strong as the day we said our farewells to him.   He will always be with me and I need to accept that and move on.....if even just a little bit.

My "mission statement", if you will, is contained in the header of this blog.  I have read it again several times, considering if I want to change it or not.  I don't.  I still want to continue to share my adventures and just daily life with you all.  I do not want to be travel blog, full of nothing but candy rainbows, about this island.

So if you choose to read along, you will hear about my life, my thoughts, my travels and anything else that may pique my interest.  My mission statement says "life in Mexico" but it will not only be about that.  Life is a continuing, changing thing.  I may not always be in Mexico but I will share my life wherever I am.

Again, this year, I will be splitting my time between Isla Mujeres, Merida and Michigan.  And anywhere else I visit.  I invite all of you to come spend the year with me.  Who knows what we may discover?

Glad to see you back amigo. There is nothing one can say to sooth what you have/are experiencing - I will leave that there and look forward to your future writings.

Glad to see you back.
I can kind of relate to how you feel as I really lost my incentive to blog after being in Canada and losing my mom last summer. The blog after this long, (blogging since 2005), just seemed to not be on my radar at all. I am slowly starting again; but the feeling is really not there.
I hope your year is a better one and wish you the best. Take care, you have lots of people who care about you.

Welcome back! I missed you. I knew that you were dealing with family stuff. I am looking forward to reading the new blog posts.I think keeping it real will be easier than trying to be all sunshine and light when life isn't that way.
Please send me an email when you are in Merida. I would love to see you.

I have always enjoyed your blog--no matter where you are & what you're blogging about. So glad you're decided to start up again. Your brother will always be with you--my sister ( she would have been 65 this week) passed away at 49--I still have to catch myself when I read something or hear something & I say "gotta remember to tell Judie that" i too had a horrendous year & am really enjoying being here on the island & not doing much of anything!

I am still with you Wayne! I lost my brother a couple of years ago as well and I understand what you are going through.

We are in Cancun waiting to see what the weather is going to do, we may come over to the Isla for a night or two.

I am sorry about your brother, I know it must be heartbreaking. I too am 50, and just lost my cousin who was 52. Life is a strange bird isn't it? Anyway, I am posting this because we are leaving for Isla Mujeres in 6 days. I've never been, and although I know you don't want this to be a Travel Blog per-se, I do enjoy your pictures and musings. Thank you for a great blog, and I wish you the best. Sally from Kansas.

It will be good to have you back in the saddle. Especially, with the good, the bad, and the ugly. Because we live with them all each day.

Glad your back! I have enjoyed your posts from Isla for a couple of years and like hearing the real life struggles you go through living there more than the fluff! I lived in Cancun and Playa Del Carmen from 1999-2001 with the first year being good and the second a major struggle.I miss the crystal blue water and the white sand beaches, but much of it, like the treatment of animals I don't miss in the least! Look forward to your next post.

I think that blogging gives me way more than I give it. I can't imagine a life without it right now.

Today at the symphony in addition to many local friends I also greeted Contessa & Colin, blogger snowbirds who have become friends and Les from Texas, a frequent commenter on my blog came up and introduced himself. I knew I would like him just from his comments but we are looking at all getting together for dinner soon. And I wouldn't know you if it wasn't for blogging, either.

So glad you're coming back to us, whether you are happy or snarky, whether it's sunny or rainy.

xoxo Nancy (using Paul's computer while they are watching the super bowl...)

Very sorry to read of your loss. Nothing can be said to change the loss and the terrible feelings that come along with such loss. I truly enjoy your blog. I left the United States years ago and have been throughout Mexico, including Isla Mujeres. All the best to you and your family. JOHN

Dear Wayne - I've been remiss this past year in keeping up with all of my dear blogger friends. I've had my own crisis going on. My heart goes out to you in your time of grief. Take as much time as you need.
I don't care what you write about - just keep writing. My blog was a cathartic exercise after my daughter died. It was extremely helpful.
I'll be in Merida from the 24th of Feb til the 26th. If you're there at that time I would love to meet you. If you want to........
Take care. You're in my thoughts.
