Geez O Pete

My last couple of posts regarding problems I am having or have had here on the island have certainly generated a lot of response.

I am grateful for the comments, and most of them make sense. But, really, as all of you know, just picking up roots and moving is easier said than done. What am I to do? Just abandon my house and flee? Life ain't that easy, my friends.

Sure, there are nicer places (maybe) to live in Mexico, but getting to them is not an overnight venture. I could name several places I would rather be right now than here on the Isla. But here is where I am. And, for now, here is where I am going to have to stay.

Unless one of you has a huge a bank account and wants to buy my house in this deflated market?

I know exactly what you mean.

Okay a tongue in cheek comment. Have you tried Feng Shui? You know call in the mystics and have a seance drive out the evil spirits, paint your house funky colors, move the furniture around, that sort of thing. Judy

Judy: Don't laugh. Last August 2009, an exhorcism was conducted on the house. One evil spirit was driven away. I actually have an offering to the guardian Alux (kind of like a Mexican leprachaun) sitting out at all times. I guess they only guard against spirits...not burglars! LOL!

If moving doesn't seem to be an option, then re-evaluate your security. Call in a consultant if necessary. You can deter it if not stop it. Crime is generally everywhere and a long. & lat. will not make it go away. I hate to see anyone abandon Isla because of ladrones. Best of luck.

I would look into getting a spirit of my own, if I were you. A 4 legged one that barks. Mexican burglars are definitely averse to those..

It’s always easier for some people to tell others how to live or what they should do when they aren’t the ones faced with the reality of the situation. I’m sorry you are having difficulties and truly hope that this nonsense with the burglaries is over for you. Also sorry about you having to cancel your long awaited for vacation. That just sucks!

call me lucky. 20yrs on the island.our house is vacant at least 4 months. never a break in or vandalism. My neighbors tell me
"you are not robbed, because everyone know you dont have anything
worth stealing."

Wayne, I for one am glad you are NOT( even though someone is trying to) run you off the island. If you could just find out who the *ell it is ! Can your real Mexican friends do some detective work? What is the word on the street? Why are "they" aggravating you what do they want. Asign out in front asking "what the hell is your problem? what do you want from me?" Shitheads!
I don't know just thinking out loud. Just wish there was something there was that any us could do to help you out.

I just have a question. Is there a problem with PIEDRA (ice, meth) on Isla?

Wayne, I know where you're coming from! We'd probably be somewhere south of the border right now if we could get rid of our house, but it's not a sensible option when the value's down almost 50%. I think a dog really might be a good solution. One with a deep bark.

Moving doesn't always solve the problem .. break-ins are everywhere you go! I would consider getting a large dog ..

A dog is definately on our agenda. Just waiting for the right one to come along. And no, there is no meth problem here on the island. At least not that I know of. There is a lot of marijuana and cocaine with the backpacker crowd and street sharks.

Try a sign that says "Bad Dog" and "Video Survailance Cameras" in Spanish and English. This may deter some of the problem. I like dogs too, but I also like to travel and cannot take the dog with me.

Buy some fake cameras. Install them outside where they are in plain view.
A dog is nice, but is a huge responsibilty. People think the dog will be there to protect your property when you are away, but who will care for your pet when you are away? I would install small wireless cameras throughout the house and have the images sent to a server. This way when you are away, you can turn it on and finally capture the intruders image and turn it over to the authorities.

3-6 year old male Doberman, seems in fairly good shape, was just dumped at the shelter I volunteer at.
Also 2-5 year old female, been there few months now. Both are really sweet, to those they love.

Hehehehe Just a tempting FYI :)
