WE LEFT THE RAT RACE EIGHT YEARS AGO AND RETIRED TO THIS LITTLE ISLAND IN THE CARIBBEAN. THIS IS MY ACCOUNT OF THE TRIALS, TRIBULATIONS, AND LITTLE JOYS OF LIVING IN MEXICO.

Great picture. I bought one of those baskets from the train, they have a wonderful scent from the pine needles they use to make them.
Cool, I love baskets but the hand made ones around here are usually pretty expensive!
Ahh, I've been there - not on the railroad tracks but Copper Canyon and Divisadero. I thought the hotel cantilevered over the cliff was one of the most unique places I've ever stayed.......And the Tarahumara people are exquisite. I wrote a blog on them = one of my first lo those many years ago.....Did you go down into the canyon?
Jonna: I bought several baskets, but not from these particular women. None of them smell! I don't think mine are made out of pine needles though. More like reeds.
Lisa: If I ever go back there, I will buy you a basket and send it to you. They are incredibly intricate....and cheap!
Babs: I took pictures of that hotel but we travel on a budget and did not stay there. We stayed in Creel. I'll have to dig into your archives and find that post. I don't remember it. I remember the Tara people as dirty, but industrious. I did not go to the bottom of the canyon because I probably never would have made it back up!
The guy from Michoacan: Sorry buddy. I rejected your comment. I am not about to open my blog to your vendetta against some company.
Wow, how cute and colorful are they! And they look to be about 4 feet tall :)
I want to see the baskets you bought!
AK: It's the angle taken from the train window. They are actually about 4'6" tall! I've given most of the baskets away as gifts but I still have a couple you can take a look at.
