A lot of the restaurants here in La Crucecita feature old sepia prints of Mexico and Mexican heros. They are a delight to look at, showing old town squares, streets, dance hall girls and war heroes.
But one I find very disturbing. It was taken in 1909 so must have had something to do with the revolution. The event took place in Mexico City. I tried to do research on the names of three gentlemen pictured but was unable to find a single thing about this incident or who they were.
I'll never understand how people can do this sort of thing. I would not have wanted to be one of the soldiers....nor one of three victims. Notice how two of them defiantly stare down their executioners.
I'm just glad there was no after picture to go along with this one.
Chilling.

I agree very chilling, and hopefully and thank god it doesn't happen in this day and age!
How do you know that the trio headed for another world weren't gangbanging, baby-raping, serial killers who wiped out an entire village of men, women and children and committed various and other nefarious and disgusting crimes against humanity?
Maybe Mexico Bob will chime in, he know so much about history. I know I have seen this picture before, but don't remember the story.
Lisa -- But, it does happen these days. Thousands of "criminals" have been executed this year by firing squad in China. And I just drove by a police-narco shooting this afternoon where the result was exactly the same. In this photo, the "crime" was probably being on the losing side.
I agree with Steve, it happens these days in a slightly different format. Look at all the narco deaths this year in all of México: Morelia has a huge problem, Mérida had the headless bodies on display, they're constantly knockin' off heads in Cancún, and the local papers have graphic photos and stories of executions every day nationwide. And I am focusing only on México.
Humans are a strange breed, to be sure. I am glad we are on the more positive, peaceful...live and let live....side of karma.
This is a very famous picture taken by Agustin Victor Casasola. The incident had nothing to do with the revolution as the picture it was taken in April 1909, more than a year before the onset of the armed conflict. Rather, the picture shows the execution of three convicted murderers.
