Naked Lady

I guess this isn't one of my usual rants about that eyesore known as Condos Aluxes. It's more of a WTF! were they thinking.

The "special" beach area for guests in now complete and open and oh-so-very-posh. Gimme a break. At any rate, this is the sign that greets visitors and passersby.

I thought it said "Cafe del Moar". Upon closer inspection, they just got carried away with their swirly dwirlys and the extra loopy thing meant to make the M look elegant and sophisticated just makes it look like an extra letter. Of course, it really says "Cafe del Mar". Geez.

Then they have the naked lady statue kind of next to the sign. This thing looks really familiar to me. Can't place where I've seen it before. Some art deco museum or something? Does anybody recognize it?

It's not a bad statue, really. But c'mon. Did they not stop and think for a moment what a joke this was going to be for tasteless tourists?

I kid you not. I had to wait patiently for my turn to take a picture of it. I almost walked away. I almost took a picture of people taking pictures of it but did not want to support what they were doing to this poor thing. Suffice it to say that somewhere out there, among their other vacation pictures, are plenty of pictures taken by wives and girlfriends of their husbands/partners or whatevers doing disgusting things to this statue with their hands, fingers and yes, tongues.

Yuk.

I can't think of anything that would look more out of place than a naked art deco statue on an Isla beach with palapas. You have to wonder what designer picked it! Maybe someone could put a bikini on it? I'm assuming she (the light) gets turned on?

I'm not sure if it is any,one particular statue. It's more a style of "figure pose" which was very popular during the Art Deco period...and was used on sculpture,table-lamps,figual ashtrays & soap dishes.

I'm speechless. Thanks for the warning Wayne.

"Anonymous" is correct. The closest piece I can recall is an Erté lamp.

You are giving far too much credit to whoever put the lamp there. I suspect, the owner knows exactly what will happen when you mix tourists with nudity.

Whoever did the lettering really screwed up. That definitely looks like "Moar," not "Mar." And the statue just isn't Isla.

It reminds me of the concept of Field of Dreams. Now that that it's built, people will come. If only first for the photo op, the will inquire about rentals. Not so bad. Robert is right though. The thing is beggin' to be stolen!

I agree that that thing is begging to be stolen or at lease defaced with crude graffiti. It must be part of the theory that Isla needs haute cuisine restaurants. I wish you had taken photos of the tourist taking photos of it. That would make for a good laugh. Oh, well if it still there next month I can do that myself, take photos that is.

@Robert
You mean the "Spirit of Ecstasy" on Rolls-Royce cars...Bugatti simply had a "badge", no hood figure.
Apart from this, it does not look very similar to the poor "Cafe Del Moar" Lady. :-)))

@Wayne
Your findings on the isla are always fascinating. ;-)
