Somebody Help Me!

I have two very good friends who have been coming to Isla to visit since before time was recorded. Well, at least according to them anyway. I have written about them before. They are sisters and legally blind so I cut them a lot of slack. But please. Look at this.

They knew what they were doing when they bought these things. In fact, they bought them last August (on a very good sale, I hope!) and saved them for their recent trip here. Just to impress me. They know how much I love good tourist fashion.

Look at the other set. There is even a frickin dragonfly on the one!

Girls, go back to your sequin covered flip flops. Oh, did I mention they had necklaces to match?

HEY...! Carmen Miranda did quite well with that kind of statement.

Oh,you only wish that they had brought you a pair!

Well, you are just to fussy!

I suspect the reason they saved them for the trip is because it's only when one's a tourist that you're allowed to wear crazy things like this. Back home they'd have been laughed off the street. But I bet they had a great time picking them out and showing them off to you.

One thing I love about Isla is that you can get away with wearing just about anything. Ask them where they got them! I could use a new pair of sandals!

ohhh... ¡chanclas con frutas!

I bet they got just what they were after in your reaction!

LOL...The fruit one would look wonderful with the hat/headdress that I made my co-madre.
I like them, if you can't wear interesting flipflops in Mexico where can you wear them?

Theresa

If only they'd had headdresses to match! Ha! I personally love the grapes.

Let me say that I am flabbergasted at the pro comments for these things. Are y'all just trying to irritate me? So on with individual responses.

O Robert: But Carmen got paid for this sort of thing!

anonymous: yes, I do wish they had brought me a pair. Mostly so I could slap you upside the head with them!

Zina: I don't call having standards and good taste being fussy.

1st Mate: they did have a good time picking them out. I got to hear the whole painful story of how they acquired them. (well, painful story to me!)

IslaDeb: NO! You cannot get away with wearing anything while on Isla. People will and do wear anything though. You don't know how many times I have looked at somebody here and thought "They purposefully bought that and brought it all the way here?"

Jonna: I'm sure you are right. They do know me way too well!

Theresa: In your own home!

LAB: Don't give them ideas! They are the type to do it. I don't even know what to say about your liking the grapes over the chili peppers!

I have never understood woman footwear. They always say they wear things like this to look pretty for men. I doubt that any man has ever even noticed.

They don’t look very comfortable to me.If I had to choose I would say the peppers over the grapes. I went through a stage where I thought if I had a sundress with bananas on it I needed to accessorize with banana earrings. So I can see why the women had matching necklaces.
Give me a pair of Croc flip flops and I am good.

Maybe this reaction has something to do with it happening in "Your Home" .... I'm not sure how I'd react, but i'd like to think I'd be a little less critical....and, for the rest of us, WE'RE ON VACATION !!!!! ... With certain reason and control, WE'RE FLYIN'!!!

I think the shoes are great ... have a drink, Wayne, ... Summer's comin'....

Wayne, I only wear chanclas in my house or at the beach. I wear real shoes when I go out in public. So you are saved! At least they weren't wearing matching sarongs! LOL....

I think they are awesome! Although I think they belong in Mexico. (You would have a hard time wearing them here in MN at this time of year)

I LOVE them! I hope its not too late for Santa to leave me a pair under the tree :)

OMG, THEY WOULD so GO WITH MY CARMEN MIRANDA HAT.........I LOVE THEM AND WOULD WEAR THEM IN THE STATES IN A MINUTE. LIFE IS A BEACH AND WHY NOT ADD A LITTLE HUMOR WHENEVER YOU CAN?

Steve: I notice everything. What does that say about me!

jackie: good thing that dress didn't have coconuts on it!

O Robert: the whole point of them bringing and wearing those shoes was to get me going. If not, they never would have posed for the pics. They knew I would be making fun of them and they about peed their pants over their success of grossing me out.

Theresa: I have nothing against chanclas. In fact I wear them almost exclusively myself. It's these over the top ones that I find amusing.

LisaJoan: I just can't believe how many people like these! And welcome to the world of commenting!

Kelly: Be careful what you wish for! I know where you live!

Babs: you are exactly right. Why not give people a laugh when you can? It sure looks like my attempt to do so with this post flopped miserably though!

Oh, Wayne, you didn't flop miserably at all. I got a big kick out of your reaction to the shoes AND the reaction of the other commenters who liked the shoes. BTW, I think they're cute! Hee, Hee!

Anyway, my point is you DID give me a laugh. It was a good post.
