Rust Buckets

The building right next to the Ultramar Ferry dock in Puerto Juarez is a fish processing plant. Sometimes you will see these fishing boats tied up there. Probably just unloaded a stomach full of fish.

But take a closer look. I can't believe people actually put out to sea in these things. Scared me senseless just to think about it!

I call that the graveyard. I'd always assumed they were dead ships. YIKES!

Believe it or not, you can see boats almost this bad tied up and offloading in Gloucester and New Bedford Massachusetts. Commercial fishing is a hard and dangerous life.

The whole fishing fleet here looks like that. You couldn't pay me enough to get onto on of them.

Run, Forrest, run. They are shrimp boats.

I have seen some of those rust buckets out on the water while crossing on the ferry. They look pretty scary to me too.

Merry Christmas, Wayne .... and a Happy Gaudy-Shoe-Filled New Year, too...:)

LAB: the ones that pull up over by the car ferry are even worse!

Island Nana: I watch that Discovery program about commercial fishing and it does not look like fun!

Brenda: don't you wonder just how bad they have to be to be retired?

Zina: Well, that's the last time I trust what the guys at Ultramar tell me then!

Jackie: they are even scarier looking up close like this. As are they guys on them!

Wayne -- Now imagine that Jaws is lurking just below the surface to punch a hole in your boat and fill his stomach with a serving of Minnesotta sushi.

LOL Steve, are you messing with Wayne again! Judy
