Caught My Eye At The State Fair

For some reason, my mind and heart are not in Mexico today. They're in the USA. So I think today is an apt day to post my last ramblings about my trip north last August.

These are the last of the pics from the State Fair.

I was in the food building and saw this little honey pie in line. I rushed over and said "Are you somebody famous? Can I take your picture?" She giggled.

She didn't think she was somebody famous yet, but let me take her picture anyway. There is a stand on the fair grounds named "Fair Hair". It is a charity booth and girls can get this done to their hair for the paltry sum of $15! There were a ton of little girls running around like this. At least it was for a good cause.

One wing of the agricultural building features a different flower group each day. I was lucky enough to be there the day they did my favorite flower.

There were a few sunglasses to choose from here. All overly priced of course. After all, it is the fair!

This display impressed me to no end. It was outside the Energy Building. It is so big I could not get it all framed in this picture. Do you know what it is?

It's one propeller from a wind generator. I have driven past fields of these both here in Mexico and in Colorado. I never guessed how huge they really are.

Ready for this. Another Minnesota institution. It is seed art. Mostly they are tacky renditions of celebrities and the like. I thought this one was really cool.

Mexican influence in Minnesota! And I don't think Smeltzer is a Mexican name either.

Minnesota's largest pumpkin!

D and S are two of my best friends NOB. It didn't really take much talking to get me to go on some Midway Rides. I'll go on any ride once. Twice if it really scares the crap out of me. First up was this thing.

Most of the time on this thing you are upside down and spinning fast. Cool!

I don't know what the attendance was the day we were there, but it was crowded!

Some people just don't have the stamina for a 12 hour visit like we did!

Enjoyed your pictures and descriptions. And that last picture would be me, I'm one of those that cannot be upright for long periods of time, or stand in line. I usually lug a small blanket to crash on. The fair in my neck of the woods in Canada is called The Ex (Toronto). It's in August and one year I would like to take Miguel.

Hey, look again at the first photo of the guy in the background with a crown on and NO hairdo. That cracked me up and, of course, the last photo made me laugh.........out loud. THAT would be me.

You're braver than I am! That ride would probably make me hurl! And that Fair Hair is kind of scary! Today, I wish I was in Mexico. It would be a nice distraction from this election. Hopefully, it WILL be over by tomorrow morning.

What beautiful flowers! And what a coincidence...I just passed one of those propellers being transported on a truck this morning on my way to work. It's hard to believe how big they are when you usually see them at a distance.

You did such a good job of explaining this year's fair that I do not feel too bad about missing it in person. But where are the Machinery Hill photographs?

Sue: I've been to the EX and I was really disappointed. It is a giant industrial expo. I expected animals and stuff.

babs: this will crack you up even more. When you go see the big hog, you get this crown with pig ears that says something like "Eat Pork" Honestly, people will wear anything that is free!

beck: I have never gotten sick from a fair ride. Close though. The election stuff makes it to us too. We'll be glued to CNN all day/night today. It's a shame though that you are so blasted with this stuff that by election day you could just kill them.

isladeb: I was amazed to learn that each blade is 3 stories tall!

steve: you're showing your age. Machinery Hill is so passe. It no longer exists. Some riding lawnmowers and horse trailers, that's it.

But there ARE animals at the Ex, including various horse shows. Usually mother pigs with piglets, and different breed of cows to show how milk is produced. I think the building is called the Agricultural building. At least, there used to be animals, I haven't been in a few years.
