Seen on Isla

On the corner of Guerrero and Abasalo sits this statue.

It is Ixchel, the Mayan Goddess of the Moon. You will see a lot of things named after her throughout the Yucatan.

I see a lot of tourists having their picture taken in front of her. And not always in a respectful manner, as she deserves. Show a spring breaker any kind of chi chi and he goes all crazy.

Too bad about her broken arm. No info on how that happened.

I think I saw her on one of my cruises.

Steve: I'm sure you did!

Heather: You are as bad as the spring breakers!

We named our Mérida house after her too, Casa Ixchel. Our plaque for the front wall doesn't much look like that version of Ixchel Aquatica though!

One or another version of Ixchel is the only main goddess in the Maya cosmology, so it doesn't leave much choice of female gods.
