We were all sitting around the dining room table the other night, laptops open as usual. I kept hearing a clicking kind of noise coming from the back porch. Since he sits closest to the back door (and I was intently catching up on my blog reading!), I made B get up to see what it was.
He started laughing and called us to the back door. This is what he saw:
It's one of our local crabs. This was the red kind. We have blue ones too. B said that when he opened the door he couldn't even see this plate of leftover cat food. The crab was totally covering it, stuffing the little bits into its' mouth as fast as it could. Of course, as soon as I got the camera, he retreated to this corner and got all defensive. See.
He was a big guy which means that he is a survivor. We left him alone to finish his meal. Not sure where he went, hopefully away!
Needless to say, we are not leaving bits of cat food out there anymore.

Just tell me it wasn't crab flavoured Whiskas..... :)
What does the kitty think of the food thief? Does she know enough to keep her nose away from those claws?
CC: LOL! I think it was Salmon flavored though! The cats were in the house. They both know better than to approach a crab. I tried to show Simon but he climbed frantically up onto my shoulder to get away from that monster!
A uniquely coastal home invasion I would guess.
Maybe if you put out a little dish of butter sauce it will come out out from wherever it is? An old Woody Allen trick ;-)
