OSHA Be Damned!

Let's start the week out with a little quiz. Put on your thinking caps and answer this question:

What do the items in the following pictures all have in common in Mexico?

The answer will be revealed in tomorrow's post. (hint: there is no OSHA in Mexico. At least not that I am aware of)

  5. My thinking cap is on but not working. All I know is that a friend of mine went down on vacation to mexico and ended up very sick and had to go to the hospital when she got back state side. Will be a waiting for the answer. I have been always told to never drink the water.

  6. Something to do with recycling or not seems to obvious.I'll have to think on it for awhile.

  7. Let's hope the answer isn't 'things I drank.'

  8. Ak: could thing you did not guess. I would have rejected your comment for cheating!

Rosas: that is an excellent guess, but wrong for what I am going after.

teresa: OSHA stands for Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They set the standards for what is safe conduct in many areas. Jeff is not doing to well. Thanks for asking.

crl/debbie: you put some thought into that answer. But still not what i am after. Think OSHA.

lisa: you are right. We do not drink the water here. Purified water is sold in those containers you see in the first picture. And, for the record, every time I visit the USA now, I get sick. Different germs than what my body is now used to. Same thing for visitors coming to Mexico.

jackie: although they should all be recycled, they are not. Keep thinking.

LAB: leave it to you to give me a good laugh! I hope I don't drink fabric softener! Or water out of a cleaning bucket!

Well everything in Mexico goes back into the water eventually..including the recycling plants dumping their waste which seeps into the water..So my guess is THE WATER! But it may not be the answer you are looking for as ALL of them have some plastic in them!

  15. Water bucket upside down on large water jug. Coffee can upside down on bucket = ladder to reach window which is being washed from small water bottle containing highly potent acidic vanish with very little water. (?) My guess

they all double as salsa containers???

  17. Clay: wrong. and we have no Super CHE! here. Just Super ExPRESS!

jeanie: Right! I always drink water with lots of lead, drink coffee that is filtered through lead and use laundry detergent that puts lead in my clothes. Guess again.

    kfrommichigan: nope

Linda: you are probably right but not the answer I'm looking for.

carl/debbie: just keep thinking. you see it everyday I am sure.

    Mimi: that's next week's post!

chavo: you are very, very close

  18. Ok, I am going to guess before I read the other comments.

Are these pictures of items that have one purpose but are used for ANOTHER purpose, and not necessarily a safe or recommended purpose?

  19. MD: YES! But what purpose?

  20. Chavo4:44 PM

Ok, if it is not salsa then it is gasoline.

All these containers have been used/can be used to transport gasoline.

  21. Are they all on sale at Costco???

    ReplyDelete
  22. First thing I thought was that someone would be filling them with gasoline for their car that ran out of gas.
    Other than that no idea.

  23. I think Chavo wins!

  24. Damn! I didn't know I had to be specific in the purpose....I am thinking Chavo beat me to the punch. Used to carry fuel from the Pemex station to wherever the scooter or car has run out of gas!

I am surely hoping that some of those containers have NOT been used to store the margaritas that I so love to drink on Isla :)

Down here all those (except the garrafon) would be used as shovels. Seriously. 2L Coke bottle are used as shovels. any plastic container was used either for making cement or as a shovel (depending on the size) But since the garrafon has such a high price ($50 deposit) I have never seen it used for anything but water. Not always clean water, but hey.

  26. Boy, this exercise turned into an interesting little Rorschach test of people's feelings about Mexico, didn't it?
